Self-guided resources have a boundary
Reflection prompts, planners, and educational writing can support a journey. They cannot assess you, treat a condition, or replace individual care — and it is worth knowing in advance where that line sits.
Reasons to speak with a professional
This list is educational and not exhaustive. If you are unsure, asking is reasonable.
- Eating feels out of your control, or is followed by compensating behaviors.
- Food, weight, or body thoughts take up most of your day.
- Low mood, anxiety, or hopelessness is persistent.
- Physical symptoms, or questions about medication and nutrition needs.
- Distress about your body is affecting work, relationships, or daily life.
If you are in crisis
If you are thinking about harming yourself, please reach out now. In the US you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, free and confidential, or call 911 if you are in immediate danger. Support is available, and reaching out is a reasonable thing to do.
